The Many Causes of Bunions

Many people suffer from this painful condition known as bunions. This is a condition that is caused by the bone at the base of the big toe becoming enlarged.

Now and again it can be a hard pad that is filled with fluid on the inside joint. There are many different causes of bunions that result in the displacement of the toe as well as an enlargement of the underside of the toe.

Since there is a lot of pain associated with bunions, finding relief is important.

What are the Causes of Bunions?

• Tight fitting shoes;
• Prolonged physical activity with improperly fitting shoes;
• Wearing high heels for long periods of time;

Finding Relief 

There are several different ways that one can find relief from the discomfort of bunions. The first and most important is to make sure you wear properly fitting shoes. As well you might want to go without shoes for extended periods of time.

When consider a new shoe, get one with a wider fit, especially around the toe area. There are a number of different remedies for relief from the pain of bunions.

This includes using ice to relieve inflammation and irritation or soaking the foot in an Epsom salt bath. There are anti-inflammatory creams available that can also help relieve inflammation.

Try using a pumice stone to remove some of the thickness of the skin. Foot massage has been found to offer relief to the area. To help realign the foot bones, look into orthotics.

It is a good idea to see a foot specialist or Podiatrist as they can give you information on whether or not this would help relieve your bunion problem.

All in all, wearing the right shoes can give some relief to bunion pain. If this becomes more of problem you may in the end need to look into surgery to help solve the problem.
